Jeremiah –
4:31 – Describes the sorrow that comes from the destruction of Judah as the voice of woman wailing in travail.
6:2 – Compares the daughter of Zion to a beautiful, delicate woman. This passage speaks of the destruction of Jerusalem.
6:24 – The pain of Jerusalem on her destruction is as a woman in travail.
13:21 – “Woman in travail” used to describe the lament of Judah if they do not repent and are taken into captivity.
22:23 – God ascribes the pain of Jehoiakim facing his destruction as a woman in travail. Note: in this passage, God issues a blood curse against Jehoiakim.
30:6 – The sorrow of the captivity of Jerusalem described as a woman in travail. Followed by God’s promise that they will be freed from their captivity.
31:8 – God is speaking of the regathering of His people. A woman with child and a woman that travaileth together.
31:22 – God is speaking to Israel about her turning from Him. He declares that a woman shall turn away or surround(Compass - H5437) a man.
44:7 – Judgement on Israel and Judah. God is going to remove them because they turned from Him.
48:41 – God is speaking of the destruction of Moab. “The hearts of the mighty men of Edom will be as a woman in her pangs.” Which is another term for in labor.
49:22 – This is the same usage as above.
49:24 – Judgement on Damascus. As a woman in travail.
50:43 – Judgement of Babylon. As a woman in travail.
51:22 – God’s judgement against Babylon. He is describing the different people He will break in pieces. Note: this chapter should be read with Jer 50; Isaiah 13-14; Rev 17-18
