Judges –

1:17 – Judah conquers a town in the area that he was given, and calls the name of the town Hormah, which means “devotion”.

1:26 – The tribe of Joseph went to take over a town named Luz, that they would change to Bethel. The spies sent before hand caught a man that was coming out of the town, and told him that if he showed them the entrance to the city, they would spare him and his family. He did so and they let him and his family go. The man went into the land of the Hittites and built another town that he called, Luz. Luz means “almond tree”.

2:5 – An angel comes to the children of Israel, to confront them about not driving out the inhabitants of Canaan and not tearing out their idols. The Israelites mourn and weep to the Lord. The called the place Bochim and sacrificed to the Lord there. Bochim means “weeping”.

4:6 – Deborah calls a man named Barak asking, “Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded…?” – God does send people into our lives, to affirm and clarify.

6:24 – Gideon builds an alter to the Lord, after God speaks to him. He names the place  Jehovahshalom, which means “the existing One”.

6:32 – Gideon has obeyed the Lord and cast down the alter of Baal, and the people of the city are angry and want him dead. Gideon’s father Joash tells them to let Baal plead his case for himself. And Gideon is called Jerubbaal. – People often try to tell us who we are based on the things that we do, but our identity should be fixed in Christ and who He says we are. That which is founded on God, and exits in the will of God does not move.

8:31 – The men of Ephriam ask Gideon why he did not call them to fight the Midianites, and he said it was because God had given them the princes of Mideon.

9:54 – Abimelech is hit in the head by a millstone thrown but a woman. Instead of dying at her hand, he calls to his armourbearer and has him slay him. So no one could say that a woman killed him.

10:4 – Jair, a judge of Israel, had 30 sons who rode on ass colts and had a city each. All called Havothjair. Which means “ villages of Jair”.

12:1 – The men of Ephraim get angry with Jephthah for not calling them to fight the children of Ammon. Jephthah tells them that he called them earlier when he and his family was in danger and they did not come. God delivered Jephthah and his family, but the Ephraimites had nothing to do with it.

13:24 – A woman bears a son and calls him Samson, which means “like the sun”. And God blessed him.

14:15 – Samson’s wife and her family is threatened by Samson’s enemies, and she tries to figure out the riddle Samson gave.

15:17 – Samson kills a bunch of Philistines with the jawbone of an ass, and calls the place, Ramathlehi. Which means “height of a jawbone”.

15:18 – Samson was thirsty and called upon the Lord.

15: 19 – God provides water to Samson, and his spirit is revived. He calls the place Enhakkore, which means “spring of One calling”.

16:18 – Delilah calls the Lords of the Philistines after Samson tells her his heart. They pay her a lot of money. – As women, and especially wives, it is important to keep the trust of those who are closest to us.

16:19 – Delilah has Samson sleep on her knees, and she calls a man to shave his head.

16:25 – The Philistines call for Samson after he has been taken, brutalized, and humiliated. They call him to make sport of him.

16:28 – Samson calls upon the Lord for vengeance against those who wronged him. God grants it and Samson brings down the building.

18:12 – The tribe of Dan is searching for their inheritance. They take a place under the guidance of a priest. They call it Mahaneh-dan, which means “camp of Dan”.

18:29 – They build a city and renamed it Dan. It was originally Laish, which means “lion”.

21:13 – Due to some horrible actions, the tribe of Benjamin is almost wiped out. The other tribes were able to find them some virgin wives among the Canaanites.
