1 Samuel –

1:20 – Hannah names her son, Samuel, which means “his name is El”, because she had asked him of the Lord.

3:4 – The Lord calls to Samuel as he is sleeping and Samuel responses with, “Here am I”.

3:5 – Smauel thinks the Eli the prophet he was serving under was the one to call him. And Eli tells him to go back to bed.

3:6 – God calls Samuel again, and Samuel, again, goes to Eli. And Eli tells him that he didn’t call him and to go back to bed.

3:8 – The same thing happens a third time. But this time, Eli is shown that God is the One calling  Samuel.

3:9 – So Eli tells Samuelto go lie down again, and if he hears the voice calling him to respond with, “Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth.”

3:10 – And God called to Samuel again, and Samuel answered God as he had been instructed. God gives him revelation about Eli and his family.

3:16 – Eli actually calls to Samuel to ask what the Lord told him. Samuel didn’t want to tell him, but he does. And hides nothing from him.

6:2 – The Philistines took the Ark of the Lord, they had seven months and it plagued every city that held it. They call for their priests and diviners to figure out what to do with it.

7:12 – Samuel sets a stone between Mizpeh and Shen and called it Ebenezer, which means “stone of help”. As a reminder of the help of the Lord.

9:9 – A servant tells Saul about the history of the word, Prophet. That they used to be called Seers. And Saul goes to seek him out.

9:26 – Samuel calls to Saul, to tell him of the Word of the Lord.

12:17 – Samuel calls unto the Lord that a storm would come during the wheat harvest to show God’s displeasure at the Israelites asking for a king. These people have continually disobeyed God and His commandments. And have turned from the Law.

12:18 – Samuel calls unto the Lord and a great storm comes. The people ask Samuel to pray for them and their sin in asking for a king.

16:3 – God tells Samuel that he has rejected Saul and will place another king over Israel. Samuel is worried about the wrath of Saul, God tells him to take a heifer and go to make a sacrifice, and call a man named Jesse to the sacrifice.

16:5 – Samuel sanctifies Jesse and his sons and calls them to the sacrifice.

16:8 – Jesse calls each of his sons to come to Samuel. The youngest, David, is anointed the king of Israel.

19:7 – Sauls son, Jonathan, convinces Saul to not kill David out of jealousy. Jonathan calls David to him, told of the promise and brought him before Saul, as he used to.

22:11 – Saul calls all the priests to accuse them of conspiring against him. They do not deny the anointing of David, and Saul orders them all killed.

23:28 – Saul turned from pursuing David, and focused on killing Philistines. The place is called, Salehammahlekoth, which means, “the cliff of escapes” or “the cliff of divisions”.

28:15 – Samuel has died, so Saul goes to a witch and asks her to raise Samuel. Samuel appears. And Saul asks him what he should do. – I think this is a funny story. The woman was not expecting Samuel to actually appear!

29:6 – David was hiding with a Philistine named Achish. Achish liked David and saw him as an honorable man, but the rest of the Philistines did not trust David, as David had slain many of them. Achish told David he could not join the armies due to the distrust.
