Study "Called" - 2 Samuel

2 Samuel –

1:7 – A young Amalekite tells David a story about how Saul called to him, and asked the Amalekite to kill him, and he did.

1:15 – David mourns the death of Saul, then calls to one of his own men to kill the Amalekite.

2:16 – A painful civil war takes place. The place is called, Helkathhazzurim which means, “field of swords”.

2:26 –  Civil war continues. One leader calls to another about the pain and bitterness that is present in this battle, and the pursuit is stopped.

5:9 – David dwelt in Jerusalem, built it up and called it the City of David.

5:20 – David asks the Lord if he should go up against the Philistines, and God tells him to go. David fights them and God delivers them into his hands. David calls the place, Baalperazim. Which means, “lord of the breaks”.

6:2 – David tries to move the ark of God. That is called by the name of the Lord who dwells between the cherubim.

6:8 – Uzzah dies, because David did not move the ark in the way that God commanded the ark be move. David is angry at God for this and calls the place, Perezuzzah. Which means, “breach of Uzza”.

9:2 – David calls a servant of the house of Saul, to try to find any surviving members of Saul’s family. For Jonathan was a close friend of David.

9:9 – David finds Jonathan’s son, who survived. He calls the servant again and sets him in the house of Mephibosheth (Jonathan’s son) to serve him.

11:13 – David calls Uriah after he has the sordid affair with Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba.

12:24 – David and Bathsheba lose their first son. David comforts her and they have a second son, whom they call, Solomon.

12:25 – Nathan the prophet calls Solomon, Jedidiah. Which means, “beloved of Jehovah”. For God loved Solomon.

12:28 – Joab sends to David, to have him come take a city, so that the city would not be called by Joab’s name.

13:17 – Amnon has his sister, and immediately upon having her, hates her. He calls his servant to remove her from his sight. After he forced himself upon her.

14:33 – Absalom seeks audience with his father through Joab. After burning Joab’s fields, Joab goes to the king and David calls for Absalom.

15:2 – Absalom starts tells lies to sow mistrust in the people of Israel, against David.

15:11 – Absalom calls men to himself. They do not know anything.

17:5 – Absalom calls Hushai to give him counsel and he listens to Hushai over Ahithophel. God specifically appointed Hushai to defeat Ahithophel’s good counsel.

18:18 – Absalom raises a pillar as a testament to his own name. For he had no sons. The place is called by his own name.

18:26 – The watchman calls to announce a runner, bringing tidings.

18:28 – The first runner calls and speaks to the king. That there was a battle, but he didn’t not know of Absalom’s fate. (He did)

21:2 – A famine comes upon the land because of Saul’s destruction of the Gibeonites. David calls to them remainder to see what they require to appease the situation.

22:4 – David calls upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised!!, that he would be saved from his enemies!

22:7 – In distress, David calls upon the Lord. God hears the cries of His people from His temple. God still hears the cries of His people.
