Study "Called" - Joel & Amos

Joel –

1:14 – Judgement and desolation is coming. God calls for fasting and solemn assembly. Coming together in the house of the Lord and crying unto the Lord.

2:15 – Again, God tells them to sanctify a fast and call a solemn assembly.

2:32 – Those who call upon the Lord, shall be saved! Anyone that calls on His name will be delivered. And the remanent shall call Him.

Amos –

5:8 – God is telling His people to seek Him. The One “that calleth for the waters of the sea”. This verse starts by identifying God as the One “that maketh the seven stars and Orion”. Job has a reference to the bonds of the Pleaides and the belt of Orion. These constellations are the only two in the night sky where the stars are close enough to have a gravitational effect on each other.

5:16 – In God’s judgement, people will be called into mourning.

7:4 – God warns Amos of the coming judgement. God calls to contend by fire. A fire that devours the great deep.

9:6 – The Lord called for the waters of the sea. None can escape from Him.

9:12 – God promises the restoration of those that are called by His name.
